Sauce, Icing, and Candy
I had a LOT of requests for this recipe that I recently used on a birthday cake. Hannah and I joke about the title of this recipe because the instructions require that you “be exact”. So, you can, in fact, fail if you are not exact.
This recipe has been used many many times in our family for icing on birthday cakes. It has a rich taste and a nice, creamy texture when cooked exactly according to the instructions.
2 Cups Sugar
⅓ Cup Cocoa
1 Tbsp Vanilla
1 Stick Butter
½ Cup Milk
Mix all ingredients except vanilla and bring to a full boil. Then, boil:
1 minute – for sauce
2 minutes – for icing
3 minutes – for fudge
Be exact and never double. Take off stove and put pan into cool water until you can touch bottom of pan. Add vanilla. Beat with mixer until correct consistency. For fudge, Pour into buttered dish. (May also add ½ c mixed nuts if desired.)
Sometimes a LOT of beating is required, and then suddenly, the icing will begin to set up.
