Previously, I shared pictures of my brief visit to Coast Guard Beach to see the Gray Seals, then Provincetown, MA where I took a quick sightseeing stroll then watched a beautiful sunset at Herring Cove.
The next morning, one town over, I stopped for coffee and breakfast at the deli in a General Store in South Wellfleet.
This was THE BEST cranberry juice ever! I wouldn’t have thought I could enjoy a deli club sandwich and a pickle with my coffee and cranberry juice. However, it was surprisingly absolutely perfect.
After breakfast I headed over to some of the beach spots. It was WINDY, like 20-30 mph, but still so beautiful.
Wellfleet
Wellfleet is located 75 miles out into the Atlantic Ocean. It is only 2 miles wide and has beautiful beaches on both the bay and Atlantic sides. It has beautiful, clear, spring-fed ponds, or kettle holes, which were created by glaciers several thousand years ago. 70% of the town land is in protection by the state and nearly half of it is part of the Cape Cod National Sea Shore. Wellfleet is one of five communities that comprise ‘the outer cape’.

This group was bringing their shellfish haul in to unload into their trucks.
After unloading, they walk the boats back out and anchor them, then walk back to their trucks.
What Makes Wellfleet Oysters Special?
Oyster connoisseurs from around the world extol the virtues of the Wellfleet oyster. Why? Wellfleet oysters tend to be long and strong-shelled. The Wicked Oyster in Wellfleet. Didn’t eat there, but really liked the name. It was a very busy spot and looked full inside.
Drove by The Inn at Duck Creeke – now known as The Wagner at Duck Creeke.
This is a place that I would definitely like to check out if I ever make it back to the Cape.
I squeezed so many different stops and locations into my trip and loved every minute of it. This day was only half over and I had several more stops to make before I decided on my next layover. In my next post, I’ll tell about my visit to Marconi Station, share lighthouse pictures, and tell about a discovery I got a real kick out of.
Until then…
