I’m continually amazed at how many people seem concerned about how Jess chooses to wear her hair. Jess prefers her hair down. It’s really that simple. She doesn’t want to wear a barrette, clip, nor headband. She’s not bothered by it being in her face. It doesn’t obstruct the vision that she doesn’t have. She doesn’t want it cut shorter. In fact, she would rather never have a haircut again in her lifetime.
Jess has had shorter cuts. They are impossible to manage and her hair becomes out of control twice a day – first thing in the morning, and after her nap. Jess is not able to independently style her own hair and doesn’t want us to either.
We are home most of the time. We don’t ‘fix’ Jessica’s hair when she rolls out of bed in the morning. We don’t prep for our video of the morning. What you see is how it really is, and that’s what you’ll always see.

However, Jess is agreeable to wearing it up when she’s eating to keep it out of her food, and when we are going places. It is our compromise.
I am taking the time to answer this question for the genuine people who ask in a polite and simply curious manner.

Jess has hair to die for! No wonder she never wants a haircut! I would just LOVE to have those curls, but got stuck with stick straight hair. Thank you for taking the time to share your life on You Tube. You are all “GOOD ONEs”! Val, though you are a nurse, your job is motherhood; you are so amazing and inspiring. I read the years journey and am amazed at your advocacy, even when not supported at the school level. The days are not easy but you and your family are making the most of all the days given. Love all your laughs, learning and hearing about your days, whatever they may bring. No apologies needed on tiredness and your house looks great to me — a lot of life is happening there! Keep on keeping on! Your new friend, Paige in VA
I’m right there with you Jess. My hair is long and I don’t like tying it up unless I have to because it makes my scalp hurt. I do wish I had curls like you though. Yours is so beautiful even when you do nothing to it.
I love her hair. I have natural curly hair and it just does it’s thing and I’m tired of messing with it so I don’t fuss over it much I either let it be curly and down or pull it up. I’m not fancy. She shud be who she is and she is beautiful either way, hair up or down.
The best part of this video is when you said “in a year?”
The look on Jess face when she realized this was just you joking and that a year without a hair cut would be impossible!
She’s such a smart cookie that girl!!! Love her!
She’s so perceptive but often struggles with my jokes. ?
