Remember that schedule I enjoyed making? Through most of Day 4 at Animal Kingdom we stuck to the schedule for the most part. Then stuff happened that day.
Breakfast at Boma
For breakfast, we had reservations at Boma – Flavors of Africa, a restaurant at our resort.
They had an amazing buffet. I had fire grilled tomatoes and asparagus, bacon, eggs, croissant and fruit. Oh yeah, and a small pancake. And a small mickey waffle. And coffee of course. What can I say? The buffet cost $27 per person. I needed it to be breakfast and lunch.
Jess had 3 biscuits and gravy and was really happy about it. Campbell had a Campbell kind of breakfast.
Animal Kingdom – Pandora
There’s a reason why we went back to Animal Kingdom again. They have this new popular attraction, Flight of Passage. It is a 3-D, virtual reality experience. When I was planning our trip, this was the only day I could get us a FastPass (which are usually hard to obtain for this experience). The standby line is usually a couple of hours long.
Quite unfortunately, Jess was not able to share in this absolutely incredible experience. Vision is required to have the 3D experience. Also, there are unpredictable and sudden movements while you are locked into the mechanical banshee. She wouldn’t be able to cope with that at all.
For Campbell and me, the ride was 100% amazing! Jess stayed nearby with a cast member while were on the ride. When we emerged, the cast member told us she had heard all about Abby, Jessica’s dog.
Jess Loves Kali
This same day we rode Kali River Rapids for the fourth time. Jess learned a new trick to keeping her phone secure. This go around we got wet, but not soaked. It was just right for cooling off.
One of J’s favorite things to do at Disney is to watch the musicals at the parks. She seldom complains during shows. Since the lights dim and the stage and characters are lit, I belive J can see colors and movement. Add to that her love of music and it’s a pretty good combination.
Animal Kingdom has Finding Nemo The Musical that we hadn’t seen before. Trying to write a description could never do it justice, but here goes…
The characters and props are represented by giant puppets which are controlled by actors, who are also dressed in character and are part of the show. Confused?
Anyway, the performance was unique and very enjoyable. I would definitely recommend it.
Festival of The Lion King
At Animal Kingdom we have seen Festival of the Lion King many times. We almost didn’t go this trip because the last time we were kind of bored with it. However, we were glad we gave it another chance. There were some new to us performers, and the tumbling monkeys skit was much better than it was during our last visit.
Then came trouble…
Rain, Rain, Go Away
Yeah, rain. We built a rain day into our schedule, but in reality, Jess didn’t. While we were still at Animal Kingdom, the storm could be seen brewing in the distance. Jess detected it too. The incessant questions started. The kind of questions that prop us up for a reassuring reply. Only, we couldn’t give them to her. Luckily, we made it back to Jambo House before the rain hit.
It didn’t just rain, it poured – to the point that we couldn’t even make it to our dinner reservations at the Rainforest Cafe. Jess was nearly distraught. Alternate dinner plans were decided on; a place that had fried shrimp – one of Jessica’s favorite entrees. I found a location only 7 minutes from our resort.
Will This Day Ever End?
Somehow, we mysteriously ended up about 25 miles away. I’m feeling pretty sure that someone in our party could potentially benefit from working on directional and navigational skills.
Another thing someone did was leave a car window cracked. It wasn’t until I sat down that I noticed some things around the door were a little wet.
It wasn’t until I stood up to get out of the car at the restaurant that I realized the seat of my shorts were completely wet from a rain-soaked seat. So, I walked into the 25 mile away restaurant looking like I wet myself. It really fit the mood of our evening that we had bad table service as well.
Anyway, insert a Caramel Appletini here, and Coconut Shrimp with Pina Colada Dipping Sauce. Yummy! Those items helped sooth my frayed nerves a little bit.
The Day Did End…
It ended right after we went through a restructuring of our plan for the next day since we missed our Magic Kingdom Extra Magic Hours evening.
Thank Goodness this one was behind us!!!!! We actually got to bed early for a restful start to the next day.
