“WATCH IT, WATCH IT!”
THE OFFICIAL NEWSLETTER FOR AUTISTIC INTERPRETATIONS®
Welcome! I am Val. My adult daughter Jess and I live together and have a loving and fun relationship. We share our daily adventures, travels, struggles, and the strong loving village that surrounds us.

We’re at the halfway mark of 2021! And now is a good time time to compare: “how it started” vs “how it’s going”. Let’s have a look.
HERE’S WHAT HAPPENED SINCE JANUARY
Do Stuff, Go Places
Compared to 2020 we’ve had already a much better year for adventures! Two trips to Disneyworld and I enjoyed a solo trip to Colorado. As you can see in our #30DaysOfDisney series on YouTube, Jess, BadDaddy, and I had lots of fun at Disneyworld. For those who love to see Jess on rides (hint: “watch it, watch it!!!”), check out this YouTube playlist.
In June, BadDaddy and I took a trip to Colorado to spend time with our son Madison and his wife, Sarah. If you’re interested in seeing some scenery photos, check out @DoStuffGoPlaces. Shoutout to Hannah who kept things going on the homefront.
Work, Work, Work
In June, we reached a much anticipated milestone: Jess returned to ‘work’. Nursing is Jess’ passion and she loves helping to look after Aunt Sue. When the workday plans changed at the last minute, Jess handled it better than I would have thought. And, it helped that Marlow came to the rescue with the idea to pay Mama Jo (Marlow’s grandother) a nursing visit. If you missed the sweet photos or need a little extra dose of sweetness, I recommend Nursing Day with Mama Jo.
Then came Jess’ first day back with Aunt Sue. Didn’t she give the best nursing report? They’ve already planned their next day for July and you can bet Jess is reminding us all.
Oodles of Poodles!
We started the year with our sweet Zoe. Hannah caught the bug and decided that she just does neeeeeeed it! So in May, we welcomed Daryl. Puppies are a lot of work, but Abbie, Zoe, and Daryl are definitely a big part of our joyful life.
While we got Daryl in May, we posted his “Gotcha Day” bideo in June. June also marked Zoe’s first birthday and the girls celebrated at Mama Jo’s pool. If you are like us and can’t get enough of the poodle joy, check out Hannah’s Instragram (@HannahBroooks).
What’s the Deal with “What’s the Deal”?
“What’s the Deal” is a feature we introduced at the beginning of 2020. The deal is: try a new restaurant and it must include dessert, chocolate preferably, and Jessica rates the experience. Jessica has trouble with questions like “what is your favorite?”, so you will see me asking comparison questions. We really enjoy these outings.
The inspiration came from a sweet interaction Jess had in a restaurant in the fall of 2019. An extra good (and anonymous) one offered to sponsor a “What’s the Deal” series, and the rest is history! In June we reviewed Drake’s in Chattanooga.
Crispies, Chicken, Chocolate Cake
Our supporter group, Club Crispy, has nearly doubled this year. We so appreciate their support. We have ‘meetings’ (Livestreams on Instagram) every Tuesday evening. We average about 35 people which gives us a chance to really interact. It’s a highlight of the week for many of us; not just for Jess and me. If you are a Crispy and we haven’t connected at CrispiesChickenChocolateCake on Instagram, please let me know!
“Help this Mother Out”
We’ve stumbled into a new phrase that has a few of us cracking up: “help this mother out”. It all started in this Jessica Vlog Takeover. Jess loves making videos, and this year she has really started to see it as one of her jobs. In addition to Jess “blogging”, we shared a variety of bideos. We shared recipes to some of our favorites meals: Hannah’s Tasty Mashed Potatoes and Fried Okra. And I also posted Nonnie’s Chicken and Dressing recipe. This year I’ve also done several Q&A videos including “Why does Jess smell her cards?“.
